Caring For Your Hair System - Shampoo
One of the most frequently asked questions is how do I wash my hair system? This is one of the biggest parts of caring for your hair system and maximising its lifespan. The first thing to say, is over washing will lead to colour loss and is it does not need it. Washing it once a week is enough.
- Try to keep the water running through your hair in one direction only. Warm (not hot) water is best as it locks in conditioners and colour more effectively.
- Apply a small amount of shampoo and gently massage into your hair. I recommend Nearly Natural: Argan Oil Shampoo. It is free from sulphate, paraben and sodium chloride.
- At this point, you should comb the hair as this helps keep the hair tangle free and then leave for 2 minutes.
- Rinse with the water flow in the same direction and using a comb.
- Gently pat dry your hair with a towel and then let your hair air dry. If you prefer you can use a blow dryer with it on the cool setting.
- You can use a leave in conditioner although its not essential.
- Style it and you are good to go.
If you want to wash your hair system, while it is unattached then much of the above applies. You can use C22 to clean the adhesive off.
You may prefer to alternatee between 2 hair systems so once washed you leave to air dry on a polystyrene head. It means you never need to rush and always have a hair system ready to go, including for emergency situations.
When you attach your hair system (including the very first time), do not shampoo your hair for 24-hours. In that time, the bond will strengthen and give an extra firm hold. If you need to wet your hair then dab water using your hand or use a spray to apply water and comb.
7 BONUS Tips
- A hair system will happy wait 3 years before use, but its
important you store correctly. Never leave an unused system
open to sunlight, moisture or rapid temperature changes. In
a cotton or paper bag in a draw is the best way to store until
ready to use.
- Condition, condition, condition. This is best done when you
have 2 hair systems and rotate between them. When you
remove your hair system its good to leave a conditioner in and
then place in a plastic bag overnight or ideally for 24-48 hours
before reuse. Leave in conditioners are effective also.
- Can can use hair products that contain sunscreen or UV blockers. This will reduce
the harmful effects of a strong sun.
- Use a wide tooth comb or a wide vent brush with round tips.
- Swap your pillow case. Satin or silk is more gentle and
less abrasive. This one step will will extend the life expectancy
of your system.
- Avoid chlorine or at least after swimming rinse hair with cool
water.
- Regularly use Moroccan oil or similar. Massage in from tip
to root. This will replenish your hair with the sebum its missing.
